Damariscotta River Oyster Farm Lease

HOW DO YOU GROW YOUR OYSTERS?

Growing our oysters,  on both the bottom and surface, is a complicated process involving a variety of techniques. As they grow, we let the unique tidal properties of the river do its job. We use a variety of methods to harvest our product.

CAN I BUY MY OWN OYSTERS FROM THE FARM?

We do not offer any individual retail purchases from the farm directly. Please reference our "How to Purchase" page to find out where our oysters end up for purchase.

DO YOU OFFER ANY TOURS OF THE FARM?

We do not offer any tours of our farm directly. With that said, Damariscotta River Cruises offers an extensive boat tour that passes by most of the farms on the river, ours included. Additionally,  our neighbors at Glidden Point Oyster Farms offer a tour from which some of our property can be seen.

Norumbega Description

WHERE DOES THE NAME "NORUMBEGA" COME FROM?

The name was chosen based on a myth/legend of a city of gold and pearls, called Norumbega, at the top of the Penobscot River, what is now Bangor. The name is also known to be derived from both Dutch and local indigenous languages meaning "a quiet stretch of water."
